Costa Rica Rivers & Rainforest, Pozo Azul waterfall, whitewater kayaking

Rivers & Rainforest is our signature trip in Costa Rica. Paddle on "the best of whats running" for 6 days...each day a new and different section of river.  We easily and flexibly cater to all different crafts (Canoe, Kayak and Inflatables) as well as all different challenge/skill levels.  Our trips can easily divide to offer different sections of river suitable for those who enjoy class 2-3 as well as those that want to paddle class 4 and above.

Sample Itinerary (Subject to change based on challenge/skill level, water level and group interest).

Day 1:  Arrive in San Jose (SJO) Costa Rica (D)

We ask that you arrive in San Jose in time for our 1600h shuttle to our Rainforest Lodge in La Virgen de Sarapiqui.  It is a stunning 2 hr drive from the airport via the  Poas Volcano to La Virgen. Upon arrival we will settle into our accommodations at  Pozo Azul Safari Lodge and enjoy a welcome drink and dinner.

Day 2:  Virgin Section of the Sarapiqui River (B,L,D)

After a delicious "Typical Breakfast" we head straight to the river for some outfitting and a class 2-3 section of river.  It is a a beautiful rainforest run with lots of eddies to catch, waves to surf and corners to run.  We have multiple put in points on this day to adapt to varying challenge/skill levels.  The section of river back onto Braulio Carillo National Park.  It is common to see abundant wildlife and bird life on the river including Howler Monkeys and Toucans.  Afternoon interpretive rainforest walk.

Day 3:  River Day (Puerto Viejo, Lower Toro, Toro Amarillo, Balsas)  Depending Water Levels / Challenge Level (B,L,D)

Another amazing day on the river.  We choose our river section based on a variety of factors.  If necessary we may divide the group to ensure everyone is paddling a river suitable for their desired level of challenge.  Evening Organic Chocolate making tour (with samples... yummy).

Day 4:  Paddling Double Header on the Rio Chirripo and Reventazon (Florida section) (B,L,D)

A great day on 2 higher volume rivers.  As we move from our base in La Virgen to our base in Turrialba.  Overnight in a classic family run lodge (Turraltico) with amazing views overlooking the town of Turrialba as well as the Turrialba Volcano.

Day 5:  River Day (Upper Upper Pacuare, Upper Pacuare to Jungle Camp or Tres Equis to Jungle Camp, Pejebaye) Depending on Water Level / Skill Level  (B,L,D)

Another spectacular day on a tropical river in Costa RIca.  Dinner at the ecclectic Observatory Lodge high up in the clouds overlooking the central valley or at our remote and picturesque Jungle Camp.  Either way happy hour and dinner will have the best of Costa Rica ambiance.

Day 6: River Day  Lower Pacure  (B,L,D)

Today's Lower Pacuare is a highlight of a paddler's adventure in Costa Rica.  Beautiful canyon walls, challenging rapids, beautiful jungle scenery combined with the chance to spot monkeys, toucans, sloth and a variety of other wildlife in their natural habitat.  Afternoon return to Pozo Azul Rainforest Lodge.

Day 7:  River Day (San Miguel Section of the Sarapiqui, Volcan, Pilas, Toro, Pozo Azul, Pozo Azul Waterfall) (B,L,D)

Our final river day gives us lots of options from mid to WILD.  Yet another great day on a beautiful tropical river with options for all levels of challeng.  Highlights, if water levels work, may include descending the 10m/30ft Cascada Pozo Azul, a Lower Sarapiqui River Wildlife Safari where it is common to 3 types of monkeys, iquana, crocodile (only seen in the lower section of the river... honestly) and an abundance of birdlife.  Dinner in the home of local friends...for an authentic rural "Tico" experience.

Day 8:  Departure (B)

Return transport to San Jose for departure home or additional travel in Costa Rica.

This program is a sample innerary.  We will do everthing in our power to provide the best trip possible taking in a variety of factors including weather, waterlevels, challenge/skill level, safety considerations to name a few.
